Ptosis of the upper eyelid in children may leadto serious consequences, such as strabismus and amblyopia. Therefore, when you notice the earliest signs of the upper eyelid ptosis, you should go with to a specialist ophthalmologist.
Treatment
Ptosis, usually, is bilateral, but children may be borne with unilateral ptosis.
Both cases may be treated by surgery. But in the case of unilateral ptosis the intervention is done by shortening the fibronized muscle, while in the bilateral ptosis the aponeurosis of the muscle is reduced.
Correction operations are done both with full narcosis and with local anesthesia, individually. The operation may take up to 30 minutes or to 1 hour.
